What to do about puss?
No-one these days knows what's around the corner.
A stay in hospital or having to tend a poorly relative a distance away
often poses the question of the best way to look after your treasure.
For a short stay for a contented domestic cat that is vaccinated a
cattery is often the answer.
However many cats are stressed in pen situations or cannot be
vaccinated, for these the best option is often to leave them where they
are. Although your treasure will miss your company during your absence
he will at least have the benefit of familiar scents and surroundings to
help keep him from over stressing. This can be even more important if
you have more than one pet as splitting them can cause even more stress.
After all puss doesn't know what's happening, all they know is they're
missing their minder and taking their mate as well can be the final
straw.
If you can arrange for someone trustworthy to come in regularly to feed
and empty litter trays this is an ideal solution. However you MUST
ensure they don't let puss out. Many cats in these circumstances go
missing because they won't return to their home while a stranger is
there.
If you can in addition find a visitor who will spend time with puss then
this is a bonus. Even if puss totally ignores the sitter then still talk
to them, the sound of a human voice will help reassure moggie. At least
leave a radio permanently playing. If you cannot find such a person
among your family and friends then call us as we may well know of a
suitable person in your area.
We can supply you with a set of 2 cards, one to carry with you advising
that you have cats and giving the contact number of someone who will
look after them. The second authorises a chosen person to ensure the
cats are homed safely should anything happen to you. If you'd like the
cards just contact any of the addresses on contact page.
